The galaxy is a big place in Starfield — and it isn’t easy to remember where every major settlement is located. Once you run out of mission objects pointing you in the right direction, you may want to revisit (or check out for the first time) different major settlements with all the amenities you’ll need to stay fresh and ready for adventure. Normally, you can tell which star systems have a major settlement because the name is highlighted on the galaxy map — but this doesn’t always help.
To make your spacefaring life a little easier, here’s a quick cheat sheet showing where to find all the major settlements. These settlements have useful vendors, bars where crew can be acquired, Trade Authority kiosks, mission consoles, and much more. If you need to upgrade your gear, modify your ship, or grab a few missions, these are the locations you’ll want to check out first.

United Colonies Locations
New Atlantis | Alpha Centauri System, Jemison
The jewel of the United Colonies. The vast metropolis is home to the richest and poorest in UC Society. You’ll find embassies to all the factions, the headquarters of the Constellation explorer’s group, and every type of big business. Join the UC Vanguard at the MAST Tower or explore the underground where the poorest live. Using the elevators and cargo lifts dotted around the city, you can explore the Well. The intricate undercity is packed with even more stores and quests to get lost in.
Cydonia | Sol System, Mars
The rougher side of the UC. Cydonia is an underground city, filled with laboring miners and criminal elements. Hire crew at the tavern — and sign-up with L.I.S.T to survey planets where colonists can live peacefully.
Paradiso | Porrima System, Porrima 2
The most beautiful retreat planet in the galaxy. Paradiso is a luxury resort with one of the most fun optional missions in the game. Enjoy Gourmet Chunks, spend time at the beach or rent a room for a long stay.
The Den | Wolf System, Orbiting Cthonia
A small space station where UC Vanguard gather. Despite being small, this station has multiple useful amenities like Ship Services and a Trade Authority vendor.
New Homestead | Sol System, Titan
A small living history museum where tourists flock. Learn about ancient Earth relics and have a meal at an old-fashioned restaurant. You can also complete missions to earn a Monster Costume — otherwise, there isn’t a lot to see at this outpost.
Freestar Collective Locations
Akila City | Cheyenne System, Akila
Beautiful Akila City is the capitol of the Freestar Collective. Join the Freestar Rangers by visiting The Rock in the center of town, enjoy the regular amenities of the big city and find even more vendors in the Stretch or the bookstore in Midtown. Visit the Coe Legacy Museum to learn more about the founder of Freestar. This hardscrabble city is surprisingly dense and much larger than it looks.
Neon | Volii System, Volii
A dense metropolis built on an ocean planet, Neon is the dirty city of sin where corporations and gangs rule. The Ryujin Industries HQ tower is located in this bustling facility — you’ll also find night clubs and dens of crime in the underside of the city. The main thoroughfare looks rich while the industrial underbelly is where the poor live. Buy and sell drugs like Aurora freely in this town.
Hopetown | Valo System, Polvo
A small corporate settlement built entirely around a massive starship factory. You’ll find a bar with recruits for your crew and a stocked gun store. This area becomes very important when progressing the Freestar Rangers faction story.
The Clinic | Narion System, Orbiting Deepala
A VIP hospital for the rich. A notable stop for anyone looking for aid supplies or medicine in the Freestar Collective. Bring plenty of cash.
Neutral & Miscellaneous Locations
The Key | Kryx System, Orbiting Suvorov
The secret headquarters of the Crimson Fleet can be found at any time — but you’ll need to join them if you want to use their services. To get in, commit a crime in New Atlantis and agree to help the UC Fleet infiltrate the pirates. You can turn traitor later and work exclusively for the Crimson Fleet if you’re feeling particularly evil. One of the most important locations for committing crimes, selling contraband or accepting piracy missions.
The Red Mile | Porrima System, Porrima 3
A criminal gambling den where lives are put on the line. Talk to the Mistress to run the Red Mile — a deadly sprint through swarms of killer aliens. You can earn rewards for completing the run or purchase illegal upgrades to your ship from the Ship Services kiosk. This is one of the few locations where you can purchase Shielded Cargo Holds.
That covers all the locations we keep coming back to again and again — and the locations on the star map are easy to forget. Use this cheat sheet to remind yourself where these settlements are located.
