Dead Space Remake: How to Restart the Centrifuge | Chapter 3 Guide

January 30, 2023 by Peter Hunt Szpytek

Try spinning, that’s a good trick.

The Dead Space remake features a lot of new mechanics, reworked ideas, and other interesting changes compared to the original 2008 survival-horror classic. While there’s plenty of new content for players to sink their teeth into, it’s still a faithful recreation of the game so there are still a lot of things that went largely untouched for the remake.

One such untouched puzzle is given to the player to solve in the game’s third chapter. After being tasked with restarting the centrifuge in the engineering section of the USG Ishimura, the game goes hands-off and leaves it up to the player after leading them to the centrifuge room. Whether you’re a newcomer to the series or a veteran fan who just needs a quick reminder, here’s everything you need to know about how to restart the centrifuge.

How to Restart the Centrifuge

When you first enter the centrifuge chamber, you’ll be on a catwalk overlooking the large centrifuge in the center of the room. Take note that you’re in zero gravity here and can fly around to explore. Before starting on the puzzle, explore the room a little bit and grab any item pickups that have been left floating around, making sure to take out the necromorph that’s inside and ready to jump on you. As you solve the puzzle, keep your eyes peeled for necromorphs that will spawn in the room.

Once you’re ready to go, fly to one of the two arms coming off the centrifuge that are marked with the blue pentagonal symbols that indicate an item can be moved with your RIG. Shoot the rotating end of the arm with a stasis charge to slow it down and then move the arm with your RIG along the track and into the center console while it’s under the effects of stasis. If you run out of juice, there’s a stasis dispensary on the catwalk where you entered the room.

After the first arm is reconnected, fly to the other side of the room and connect the other one with the same method. With both arms reattached, head to the catwalk opposite of where you came in and activate the terminal that’s next to the O2 dispensary.

As soon as the centrifuge starts spinning, turn around and take the elevator behind you down to the ground floor of the room. In this section, you’ll need to be running to the left to get to an elevator on the other side of the room but you’ll have to avoid the sweeping arms of the centrifuge by stopping in the alcoves. Be wary of the necromorphs that attack you as you push forward.

You’ll eventually make it to an O2 dispensary and the elevator up, so top off your oxygen and then head back up to the catwalk you initially came in on and head back to the engine room to continue Isaac’s mission, having successfully restarted the centrifuge.
