Sonic Frontiers does not have its sights set on combat mastery. It is, at best, a mostly entertaining – yet simple – affair. Heck, even Sonic’s progression on a mechanical level can be boosted by doing just about anything, so zipping past enemies is often the best course of action.
To help nudge players into engaging with its combat, however, Sonic Frontiers pits you against a number of challenging boss-like enemies, all of which change depending on which island you are currently on. These are nearly always worth battling, and the Tower Guardian is one you will encounter fairly early.

What Are Tower Guardians
Tower Guardians, despite being quite tall, are nowhere near as large as the other bosses you will face on Kronos. As the name implies, Tower Guardians are towers. They are made up of multiple smaller segments, allowing Sonic to engage them by knocking each segment from under the greater stack.
You can find them on Kronos primarily, however, you will encounter them later in the game. One notable encounter pits you against FOUR of these things at once (and has a timer associated with it!).
Attacks & Mechanics
Towers, despite their imposing size, don’t have many attacks in the grand scheme of things. They mostly try to squish you before setting up some defences to make attacking them more difficult. This simplicity makes them an interesting, but a straightforward enemy to deal with.
Attacks
Attack | Explanation | Counter |
Projectiles | The Tower Guardian fires out a series of explosive projectiles | Strafe and dodges to avoid them. This attack is very easy to avoid |
Drill Dive | The Tower Guardian leaps into the air and slams down. This will damage Sonic if it hits. Tower Guardian will also launch projectiles (see above) whilst moving through the air | Simply move away from Tower Guardian and dodge its ranged attacks. |
Mechanics
Tower Guardian’s weak spot is its head. It will instantly die if you destroy it, which you might think is the trick to defeating this thing quickly – however, that is not the case. Tower Guardian’s head is protected by a large spinning blade which prevents Sonic from attacking.
Its other mechanic is its segmented body. Each segment of Tower Guardian’s body can be destroyed. This will cause Tower Guardian to shrink.
How To Beat Tower Guardians
Tower Guardian can be defeated by destroying its head. The catch is actually attacking it since it is so well-defended. The trick is to destroy each of its segments until Tower Guardian has shrunk enough to make its head vulnerable.
This is fairly straightforward in the early fight as Tower Guardian’s spinning blade is at the top of said Tower. Once Tower Guardian has shrunk, however, it becomes impossible to attack the base of the Tower, and, in addition, you will be unable to attack the head. This is the last segment before Tower Guardian is vulnerable to a direct head attack.
To overcome this last hurdle, you need to wait until Tower Guardian jumps. This will cause the bottom-most segment to detach from the head (and therefore the spinning blade) allowing you to destroy it. With this final piece destroyed, you can finally lock onto Tower Guardian’s head and finish it off.
During this fight, Tower Guardian will launch projectiles at Sonic, so you will need to be on your toes and get ready to dodge. Nail the strategy, and Tower Guardian will go down.
How To Defeat 4 Tower Guardians At Once
There is a quest on the second island that requires Sonic to defeat FOUR Tower Guardians in around about 1 minute. This is incredibly daunting at first as one Tower Guardian can take a while to defeat, and these Towers are much taller than your usual Tower Guardians.
The trick for this encounter is to run up the Tower Guardians’ body (these Tower Guardians do not have a spinning blade!) and then attack the head directly for a quick kill.
That’s all we have on Sonic Frontiers for now. We have plenty of guides awaiting your perusal, and more Boss Guides are on the way.
