Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Der Eisendrache Maxis Secret Code Guide

February 3, 2016 by Carlos Chism

Having trouble deciphering Samantha’s codes? We’ve got you covered.

black ops 3 DER EISENDRACHE easter egg cipher
Activision launched the newest Call of Duty Black Ops 3 Zombies mode DLC this week. If you’ve been rummaging through the maps and want to find one of the secret hidden codes, we can show you how.

In the church on the Der Eisendrache map, head to the room in the church with all of the different computer screens. In this particular guide, we’ll be taking a look at the computer screen that has the key “Maxis” at the top. Thanks to Youtuber MrDalekJD and redditor CertainPersonio, the random cipher gibberish text has been decoded. Here’s the original text:

BVEIYO UCAYIF UNEFGV TTQSCG IMBAFT OHMNCF VCOIVX FNGOVF RSBEYM UHEGNC IJZQXA BHTFYK HRAIRP JFHQTO NBEHRM YQAUFN EAR

As CertainPersonio explains, “this is a fractionated cipher. Each character of the plaintext is assigned a coordinate in a polybeius square and then those numbers are split. Next the numbers are read horizontally to create a long string of numbers. Finally this string of numbers is split into 2’s and those pairs are the coordinates of the cipher text.” To crack the code, you need to reverse the process. If you’d like to read that process in detail, definitely check out the full Reddit thread. We’ll jump right to the decrpyted text:

FATHER INTRODUCED ME TO A NEW FRIEND THAT JUST ARRIVED HIS NAME IS EDWARD HE IS NICE BUT HE DOESNT LIKE TO SHARE THE TOYS

This message implies several things. One, we know that Edward has spent a lot of time working in his bedroom, which has since been partially destroyed. This could be the adult Edward who came to stay at  Der Eisendrache for a time, or it could be the younger Eddie from the origins cut scene. Samantha, who has left the coded message on the computers, seems to be referring to the adult Edward, as his living quarters don’t resemble those of a child: shotguns on the walls, Iron Cross flags, and dead zombies. It seems the cipher text is talking about the adult Edward and not the child version we also meet.

If you’re also looking for help getting every last achievement in Black Ops 3 The Awakening DLC, we’ve got you covered. Make sure to catch up on what was in the game’s latest update, too.
