Pokemon Sword & Shield: How To Get Mew | Secret Transfer Pokemon Guide

December 2, 2019 by Kevin Thielenhaus

Catch the elusive Mew in Pokemon Sword & Shield with these very extra methods.

Mew, the originator of Mewtwo, is actually available in Pokémon Sword & Shield — even though you won’t find Mew on the Galar Pokedex. That makes Mew one of the weirder outliers you can add to your Pokémon collection, and there are only a handful of ways to get one. You won’t find Mew anywhere in Galar, yet it’s still totally possible to track this cute little guy down. Sadly, he won’t evolve into Mewtwo anytime soon.

We’ll go over all the ways you can grab Mew below. This ancestral Pokémon is one of the most powerful and legendary in the entire series. Mew is the final Pokedex entry for the Kanto region, and a secret Pokémon found in Pokémon Red & Blue, the first games in the long-running series. Mew is the ultimate hidden Pokémon, and there are two ways you can get him here — none of them involve anything in-game.

How To Get Mew | Secret Transfer Pokemon Guide

Mew, the legendary (and secret) final Pokémon first appearing in Pokémon Red & Blue can be added as a playable Pokémon, even though it isn’t on the Galar Pokedex. There are two ways you can get Mew — you’ll need to buy an accessory, or play another game to get it.

  • Purchase the Pokeball Plus Accessory — there’s a Mew reward inside!
    • The Pokeball Plus is compatible with Pokémon Sword & Shield, Pokémon GO, and Let’s Go Pikachu / Eevee.
  • Mew can be transferred to Pokémon Home from two different games.
    • Pokémon Home is the new Pokebank-like app that allows players to transfer Pokémon and share them between multiple different games. The app is planned to release in early 2020.
  • If you catch Mew in Pokémon GO or Let’s Go Pikachu / Eevee, you can transfer Mew to Pokémon Sword & Shield using the Pokémon Home app.

You’ll have to wait a little longer for Pokémon Home to release, but once it does, you’ll be able to move over a rare little guy like Mew and play with him in Pokémon Sword & Shield. It’s a very powerful Pokémon, so it’s going to be worth getting if you can.
