Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening – Win The Crane Game Every Time With This Simple Timing Trick

September 27, 2019 by Kevin Thielenhaus

Crack the code and become a crane game master with these tips to make perfect grabs every time.

Get an endless supply of rupees with this trick.

The Crane Game (or ‘Trendy Game’ as it’s called in the shop) is an incredibly aggravating minigame that’s been driving Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening players insane for years. Grabbing items that are just sitting in place isn’t so bad, but trying to get the items on the conveyors can seem almost impossible. That is, unless you know exactly when to time the grabbing mechanism.

I’ve figured out a method that makes grabbing items a breeze. It’s different depending on which conveyor you’re looking to grab from — the left or right conveyor requires a slightly different approach. If you follow the instructions below, you’ll be consistently grabbing items from the conveyor belts. It makes grabbing those figurines much easier.

Win The Crane Game Every Time With This Simple Timing Trick

The Crane Game is a mini-game in Mabe Village. It’s packed with useful items — extra rupees, heart pieces, secret sea shells and all the missing figurines for the village.

There are always five random items in the crane game, called the “Trendy Game” — it costs 10 rupees per attempt, and you can grab everything you want extremely easily with this simple method.

The hardest items to get are on the top two moving conveyors. Some players are going absolutely nuts trying to get these things. It’s all about the timing and how you hold the buttons.

  • How To Get The Item On The Top-Right Conveyor:
    • Hold [X] to move the crane up as far as it will go.
    • Hold [A] to move the crane as far right as it will go. Continue to hold [A]! Don’t let go, and the crane won’t go down.
    • Release [A] before the top-right conveyor goes as far left as it can go and begins moving back toward the top-right corner.
  • How To Get The Item On The Top-Left Conveyor:
    • Hold [X] to move the crane up as far as it will go.
    • Tap [A] just as the top-left conveyor stops and begins moving left after reaching it’s right-most point. As it begins moving back toward the top-left corner, that’s when you want to tap [A] briefly.

If you time it properly, you’ll get a reward almost every single time. If you’re too quick or too slow, it’s possible for the item to just escape your grasp. If the item drops out of position, it’s better to just give up and reset — leave the store and come back in to reset the item position. Unless the item rolls off the conveyor entirely, then it’s your lucky day to get a totally stationary item! It happens sometimes.
