The massive, mechanical bosses of The Surge 2 bring some sci-fi insanity to the Soulsborne formula — and these tight, difficult encounters are much, much better designed than the janky battles of the first game. This time around, you’ll need to employ all your skills to handle each deadly opponent, and some of them are just downright weird.
Whether you’re fighting bathtubs with legs, transforming nanobeasts, or ungodly techno-messiahs in The Surge 2, we’ve got the tips you need to take them down. Check out the video breakdowns below for step-by-step, in-depth information on each boss fight. Thanks to the new parry mechanic, there are new ways to counter-attack even the most intimidating enemies, and know when (and where) to parry can drastically change a titanic boss battle.

How To Beat Every Massive Boss Battle
See how to tackle every boss with the video guides linked below.
While there are other minor boss battles against named opponents, this article features only the most major boss battles in the game. Each of these battles is an important milestone in the game, and they’re completely unavoidable — you need to defeat these giant opponents to escape the city and keep your humanity.
Boss #1: Little Johnny
The first boss is a massive bathtub on legs. To defeat this monster, you need to destroy the heatsinks and smash the legs — instead of whittling down a health bar, you’ll need to make the monster overheat until he boils himself alive.
Boss #2: The Delver
The delver is a nightmarish nanomachine monster that can change forms at will. You’ll track this creature into the depths of the artificial forest — it isn’t enough to defeat it once, you’ll have to fight three different forms of monster.
Boss #3: Metal Armor / Major General
The deadly Metal Armor mech is a two-stage fight against the Major General — an enemy you’ll encounter deep within the AID military base. Not only must you fight the giant mech, you’ll also have to fight the Major General on-foot as you dodge the weapon systems of the still-active Metal Armor.
Boss #4: Matriarch Celeste
The Matriarch Celeste is a ghost-like being you’ll spot all over the city. During your adventures, the Matriarch of the techno-cult speaks to you through television monitors. This insane woman must be stopped before she spreads her insanity outside the city.
Boss #5: H.A.R.O.L.D.
H.A.R.O.L.D. is the dog-like robot that’s in the Creo Institute of Technology. It isn’t a normal dog robot — it’s infected by the nanovirus, and goes berserk after your return trip from the Matriarch.
Boss #6: The Final Boss
The final boss is unlike anything else in the game. Instead of fighting a physical opponent, you’ll re-encounter an old enemy in a dream-like space. This ghostly opponent fights like a true sword-saint, floating about the flowers in a god-like state of transcendence. You’ll have to use everything you’ve got to beat it.
