Control: How To Solve Every Puzzle | Punch Cards, Lightswitches & More Solutions

August 28, 2019 by Kevin Thielenhaus

Need help solving some of Control’s weirder puzzles? Check out our solutions for every puzzle in the game.

The puzzles of Control are often bizarre, following dream-like logic as you try to navigate strange mindscapes. You’ll often revisit locations like the Oceanview Hotel, where you’ll have to solve environmental puzzles to proceed. Sometimes, you’ll be stuck and unsure how to progress — or face traditional puzzles that actually do follow some sort of normal logic in the Research Sector.

There are more puzzles than you might realize in Control, so we’re going to share how to solve every one of them in the complete guide below. As I play through the game, I’ll add more puzzle solutions

How To Solve Every Puzzle | Punch Cards, Lightswitches & More Solutions

[Work-in-Progress: Check back soon for more puzzle solutions!]

Unknown Caller – How To Reach The Hotline

In the quest ‘Unknown Caller’ you’ll have to traverse the Oceanview Hotel to reach the hotline. The bridge is out — to access the hotel, click the lightswitch three times.

When you appear in the Oceanview Hotel, interact with the bell on the front desk. Hit it a few times — each time you hit the bell, a door will open down the hallway. Hit the bell until the last door on the left opens. The keys are here.

Take the keys and use them to unlock the door marked with an Inverted Pyramid. Unlock the door, and flip the switch inside to make the bridge reappear.

Old Boys’ Club – How To Solve The Black Rock Prism Puzzle

In the HRA Lab, you’ll have to solve a puzzle with punch cards. There are five computers and five punch cards. To reactivate the machine, you need to place the correct punch cards into the matching computer.

Look for the numbers on the side of each terminal. Search the area and collect all the cards, then find the solution below.

  • Computer #1: Card #1
  • Computer #2: Card #3
  • Computer #3: Card #5
  • Computer #4: Card #2
  • Computer #5: Card #4

If you’re confused, the order is shown on the white boards. There are three white boards — each one has a small piece of the complete puzzle. Ignore the symbols scratched off in red, and only look at the symbols left over. Also, look for black lines — some of symbols need to be swapped on the white board.

Threshold – How To Reach Black Rock Processing

In the quest ‘Threshold’ you’ll be sent to Maintenance Central to access the Black Rock Processing area. This area is blocked — the bridge is missing. To reach it, go through the Level 4 Clearance Door and climb up to another Lightswitch Puzzle.

Click the lightswitch three times to enter the Oceanview Hotel. Again, you need to get the keys and unlock the Inverted Pyramid door. To get the keys, ring the bell at the front desk until both doors down the hall open.

Now you have to make these two hotel rooms look identical. To do this, you need to make sure several details are properly aligned.

  • Desk chair out.
  • Painting level.
  • Window radio on the left.
  • Dresser plant on the left.

When all of these details match, the third room door will open. Go inside, collect the key, and flip the hanging switch to make the bridge appear.
