- Release: March 20, 2020
- Co-op: N/A

After Doom received a remake for current-generation platforms, there was plenty of excitement for the franchise once again. It was enough to allow id Software to continue with another installment coming in 2020 called Doom Eternal. Players will once again take the role of Doom Slayer who is on the battle against demons from Hell. Now after the events of 2016’s Doom, it seems that the demons have flooded Earth forcing players to battle against the swarm of enemies to save the human race.
This will still be a first-person FPS with action-packed gameplay. A new element was added into the game where players can visually see an enemy deteriorate when they are attacked. Furthermore, there is a competitive multiplayer element known as Invasion. With this game mode activated, a random player can join into your campaign as a demon. However, this is a game mode that can be turned off and you can still expect the standard competitive multiplayer modes in the game as well.
#4 Resident Evil 3
- Developer: Capcom
- Publisher: Capcom
- Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO
- Release: April 3, 2020
- Co-op: TBA
- Competitive Multiplayer: TBA
The Resident Evil franchise has been an iconic one for several years now and has inspired several developers to craft up their own unique survival-horror video game experience. Over the years we’ve seen the franchise adapt and bring out several installments into the market. However, some would argue that Capcom started to really evolve the game series and made it more action-oriented. That changed when the developers reached Resident Evil 7 and opted to go back and deliver a game that resembled its roots of being a survival-horror experience. The move was quite successful and it allowed the remake for Resident Evil 2.
With all the success, there was hope that Capcom would continue on with new remakes with Resident Evil 3: Nemesis being one of the games asked about to various developers over at Capcom. Thankfully, we’re going to get a Resident Evil 3 remake in 2020. Overall, the game will follow Jill as she attempts to escape Raccoon City after an outbreak has spread across the city, turning more people into mindless zombies. Likewise, a massive zombified creature is after Jill and her S.T.A.R.S taskforce.

One of the most cherished video game installments in the Final Fantasy series is getting a remake. Fans have been requesting Square Enix to go back and give Final Fantasy VII a proper facelift for the latest generation of platforms and after years of pleading, we’re finally getting that remake copy this coming year. Final Fantasy VII Remake is in the works and it’s going to offer gamers a chance to either replay the original PlayStation RPG classic or for newcomers, a first time experience with the narrative adventure.
In this game, players will follow Cloud Strife, a mercenary who works with a cast of characters as they fight against the corrupt Shinra megacorporations. This game title had plenty of exciting moments in the story so gamers who previously played the Final Fantasy installment, are like just as excited to see how they look in today’s latest hardware and technology enhancements. With that said, there are some changes you will want to make note of. For instance, this is no longer a turn-based RPG title like the original but instead an action RPG.
As a result, combat will be fluid much like the Kingdom Hearts franchise. This is also going to be a game covered in multiple installments, much like episodic releases that you may be more familiar with from games like The Walking Dead from Telltale Games. Unfortunately, at the time of writing this, we don’t know how many parts will make up the full remake quite yet.
#2 Cyberpunk 2077
- Developer: CD Projekt Red
- Publisher: CD Projekt
- Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO
- Release: April 16, 2020
- Co-op: N/A
- Competitive Multiplayer: Yes Post-Launch
Ever since its announcement, there have been gamers around the world who are excited to see Cyberpunk 2077 launch into the market. This video game comes from the development team, CD Projekt Red, who got their worldwide fame after the success they had with The Witcher trilogy. Now that the developers had wrapped up the trilogy their new focus is on the next IP video game adaptation. Cyberpunk 2077 is still an open world RPG but unlike The Witcher, this game takes place years into the future where crime and greed rule the world.
We know that this game will put players into the role of a mercenary named V who takes on odd jobs in order to build up his or her street cred. The higher your street cred the more lucrative your jobs will become. This game features a rather lived in a world so far from the gameplay footage shown off, but with that said, we’re still waiting to see more of the fine details on what exactly you can expect exploring the in-game world. One element that you may find of interest is the choices the developers will present players throughout the campaign and situations. It seems that missions are set up in a way that allows players to decide on how to actually accomplish them. Furthermore, depending on your choices and actions, gamers will receive multiple different endings giving an incentive to go back and replay the game.
#1 The Last of Us Part 2
- Developer: Naughty Dog
- Publisher: Sony Interactive Entertainment
- Platforms: PS4
- Release: 2020
- Co-op: N/A
- Competitive Multiplayer: TBA
The Last of Us was a massively popular video game from developers Naughty Dog. Overall, the game was a narrative-driven title that followed a man tasked with delivering a young girl across the country. Set in a post-apocalyptic world where humanity is dwindling down in numbers if attacked by an infected zombie-like creature. Why you’re risking your life for a girl to reach a destination so far away is unveiled during the journey. It’s quite the popular video game title and in 2020 we’re getting its sequel.
The Last of Us Part 2 follows the events of the first game several years later. In the game, players take on the role of Ellie who is living in a community where it seems that the threat is less on the infected and more with other human factions. From what we know so far, a cult-like group has killed Ellie’s love interest. Fueled by rage and hate, Ellie sets off to take out the group against all odds. This will be quite the journey for players and its one that Naughty Dog claims to be their biggest video game they worked on yet.
This will still be a survival game set in a third-person perspective. There was also a lot of work put into the movement system where characters are said to be more fluid and realistic when maneuvering around in the world. Likewise, you can expect some new infected enemies to appear throughout the game campaign such as a creature that can flood the area with a poisonous gas which also doubles as a smokescreen.
