Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: 20 Tips To Help You Beat World of Light | Spirits Mode Guide

December 12, 2018 by Kevin Thielenhaus

World of Light is a gargantuan new singleplayer mode for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Here’s everything you need to know to win.

#5: Quickly Choose A Proper Party With Auto-Select

Press [Y] in the Party menu to auto-select an appropriate team — you can do this for both your Primary Slot and your Support Slots. The auto-select won’t always select your ‘best’ spirits. Instead, it tries to set you up for a fair, balanced fight. That way you’ll get most of your rewards at the end. Auto-select will also select any Spirits with abilities that will nullify stage hazards. That’s very, very handy.

#6: Unlocking Fighters In World of Light Unlocks Them Everywhere

Every once in awhile, you’ll notice a very large icon on the World of Light map. These are character unlock fights, and they’re scattered all over. By winning these one-on-one battles, you’ll unlock the character — and they don’t just unlock in World of Light, they unlock globally, for the entire game.

Unfortunately, the opposite doesn’t work. If you unlock a character in Versus, you won’t be able to use them in World of Light until you’ve unlocked them in that mode.

#7: Can’t Beat A Fight? Choose An Advantaged Spirit, And Over-Level It

All spirits have a core attribute — it’s kind of like rock-paper-scissors. Some spirits are neutral, but others will have an advantage or disadvantage. If you use the Auto-Select feature, mentioned earlier, the game will always automatically select a Primary Spirit that is advantaged — you can tell because you’ll see up-pointers over your Spirit, and down-pointers floating over the enemy Spirit.

Essentially, if you have the advantage in a fight, you do more damage and they do less damage.

#8: Select Support Spirits For Powerful Combos [Weapon Damage + Starting Weapon]

Eventually, you’ll start picking up a huge variety of Support Spirits. Some of these Support Spirits are powerful when equipped together — for instance, you can select a Spirit that starts you with a Ranged Weapon, and equip a Spirit that Improves Ranged Weapon Damage, and a third Spirit that gives you more Ranged Weapon Ammo. Look out for Spirits that work together.
