Heavy Rain: How To Get The Best (& Worst) Endings | Endings Guide

July 4, 2018 by Kevin Thielenhaus

Now that Heavy Rain is available for free on PS+, there’s never been a better time to revisit. Here are all the decisions you’ll need to make to get the very best (and worst) endings.

Heavy Rain

Heavy Rain is available now for free if you’re a PS+ subscriber, and to celebrate the PS4 re-release, we’re taking a look at all the best (and worst) endings in the second game from Quantic Dream. Heavy Rain is the first in their cinematic adventure games that favor choice and consequences over puzzles. In Heavy Rain, you play as four different characters — all of them searching for the identity of the Origami Killer, a cruel murderer that kidnaps children and forces the family to complete twisted trials.

Yes, it’s also where the “SHAUN!” meme comes from. You’ll spend much of the early hours with Ethan Mars, a depressed father searching for their lost son. You’ll also step into the shoes of Scott Shelby, a private eye detective, Madison Paige, a journalist looking for a big scoop, and Norman Jayden, an FBI agent assisting in the search for the Origami Killer. There are many different endings, and you’ll get one for all four playable characters. Here are the vest best and worst endings you can unlock.

How To Get The Best (& Worst) Endings | Endings Guide

There are multiple endings you can unlock for each of the four playable characters, and they all depend on a few factors.

  • If they’re alive / dead.
  • If they’ve found the location of the warehouse.
  • If Shaun is rescued / killed.

Every ending essentially is unlocked depending on which of these requirements are fulfilled.

The Best Endings

The best endings all revolve around stopping the Origami Killer and saving Ethan’s son. There are multiple endings you can unlock, but here are the endings I think are the very best.

A New Life – Ethan + Madison Ending

Ethan, Madison, and Shaun move into a new apartment together. The Origami Killer is dead, and most of the main characters can move on. The heroes survive and Shaun is happy. It’s basically the best ending!

  • Ethan must survive and not get caught by the police.
  • Ethan must solve the puzzle and reach the final warehouse.
  • Madison must survive and you’ll need to kiss her in the “On The Loose” chapter.
    • Ethan needs to be forgiven by Madison or they will not kiss.
  • Shaun must survive.

Case Closed – Norman Ending

There are two endings for Norman that can be considered his “best” endings. Both of them are good endings, as long as he survives, but this ending keeps him in the FBI. He’s considered a hero for contributing, and that’s all that matters here.

  • Norman must survive.
  • Norman needs to locate the warehouse in the final puzzle.
  • Shaun must survive.
