#5 This War of Mine
This War of Mine is a war survival video game that is a bit different than your standard war based titles. Taking place during a siege, players take on the role of keeping civilians alive during the woes of battle.
There’s plenty of strategies that go into the video game as players will need to fortify their base, go out at night to acquire new resources while making tough decisions based on morals. Likewise, you’ll need to be alert of any other civilian groups who decide to raid your base for resources.
#4 Defcon
Decon by developers Introversion Software is a Real-time strategy game, or otherwise known as RTS. The game offers players a world map in an old 1980s vector graphic. From there, players are tasked with destroying the opposing population.
Made to be a multiplayer experience, players will use nuclear weapons to take out other areas around the map. However, throughout the game, gamers will have to keep an eye on assets and territory forcing players into making alliances.
#3 Titanfall 2
Respawn Entertainment kept up with the Titanfall franchsie with the release of Titanfall 2 in 2016. Players will still have the competitive online multiplayer component that Titanfall is known for, however, this time around the sequel launched with a full singleplayer narrative campaign. This is something that was often brought up when Titanfall originally released and luckily the developers kept that in mind when crafting up Titanfall 2.
Within the campaign players will be taking on the role of Jack Cooper, a Militia pilot that earned his Titan after the mech’s driver was killed-in-action. Now Jack Cooper must work his way back from behind enemy lines.
If you’re looking for more competitive gameplay, the online gameplay matches are still fully accessible. The carnage of monstrous mechs and nimble foot soldiers makes combat competitive and intense.
#2 Battlefield 1
Developed by EA DICE, the Battlefield franchise has recently taken a step back by taking players to World War One with Battlefield 1. The video game is the fifteenth installment in the Battlefield series and much like the past installments, Battlefield 1 is an FPS.
While the game features a fully fleshed out multiplayer filled with game modes, players who pick up the game also have a narrative campaign. The campaign will have a few different characters from around the globe who will offer their story of the war.
War is certainly not pretty and Battlefield 1 shows the grittiness and carnage that soldiers had to go through in order to survive and achieve victory. Though some would argue and say that the narrative campaign is a bit on the short side, gamers could spend countless hours on the online multiplayer game matches.
#1 Nier: Automata
Nier: Automata is an action role-playing video game. Taking place after the fourth ending of the previously released Nier, Automata follows YoRHa, androids sent to Earth to fight the invaders in a proxy war. The game has received a positive reception once it released and its certainly one game we recommend for both its gameplay and narrative journey and makes our list as an incredible title well-wroth playing even if it may not feature the most traditional war setting. With high praises from both critics and fans, do yourself a favor and give Nier: Automata a try.
