According to an interview with TIME, Nintendo Director Shinya Takahashi and Nintendo Switch Producer Yoshiaki Koizumi envision a future where the Switch is “the constant” in our gaming lives. Traditionally, there is a separation between the domains of handheld and console, but if Nintendo’s philosophy takes off, Nintendo Switch could be the system that revolutionises how we play – in addition to matching the sales of Nintendo Wii.
It’s anatomy of detachable joy-cons leaves open an opportunity for modifying the system, not unlike the universal connective ability of a USB port. Previous Nintendo handhelds like the Nintendo DS and 3DS received hardware upgrades like the DS Lite, and New 3DS respectively, and although Koizumi doesn’t specify what’s in store for the Switch yet, it’s very likely we’ll be getting upgrades of some sort:
“Because you can remove the controllers from the system, it opens up a lot of possibilities for expansion of what you’re able to do with the controllers or what you’re able to connect to the system. I’m sure a lot of people have lots of different ideas about what might potentially get connected to the system, and perhaps suddenly one day, we’ll just pop up and say, ‘Hey, now there’s this’, though I can’t give you any examples right now.'”
Gameranx recently learned that Fifa 18 has been confirmed for Switch.
