The PlayStation 6 may not be arriving in 2027 like everyone expected after all.

In a new interview with the Wall Street Journal, Hiroki Totoki revealed that they have not set a release date for the PlayStation 6 yet.
As Eurogamer explained, Totoki shared a similar claim in their last earnings call. Totoki also told investors that they are still weighing the impact of the memory component supply crisis in making this announcement.
On this end, Totoki mirrors XBOX CEO’s Asha Sharma with her concerns for component supplies and how it will affect Project Helix.
But unlike XBOX, Sony is facing a deadline they set for themselves that complicates their plans. Sony will stop making physical game discs for PlayStation consoles starting January 2028.
Can Sony afford to delay the PS6 after January 2028? We imagine they already have PS6 exclusive titles they need to sell.
To add to this, Sony’s decision to stop bringing their games to PC locked out even more potential customers, such as Chinese gamers. But they can at least reverse this last decision if they have to.
This may be a situation where Sony has no real good options.
