The Game Awards has been on for about an hour, when you include the pre-show, and they’ve already revealed some key things for gamers to look forward to in the future. After teasing a “controversial mystery,” Geoff Keighley revealed a new trailer that was…yeah, we’re just going to say it, it was dark as hell. Seriously, we’re not going to list all the things that happened in this trailer, because it’s rather gross, but the point of the trailer is that by the end, we got confirmation that Larian Studios, the team behind the incredible Baldur’s Gate 3, is working on its next game, and it’s the return of the Divinity franchise!
An image of a “tree” had been haunting the internet for a while, and many wondered if it was tied to Larian. By the end of the (very dark) trailer, we indeed got confirmation that this tree is known as the “hellstone,” and it’ll be a key part of the new game that the team is making. You can take a look at the trailer below, and we’re again going to say…this isn’t for the faint of heart:
Yeah, that got dark. After the trailer’s reveal, Geoff Keighley noted that not only is this the next Larian Studios title, going back to this franchise that helped set them up as one of the best RPG makers out there, but that it would be their “biggest” title ever, with more content than ever before. That’s saying something, as the first two games in this series, plus they’re helping in getting gamers back to Baldur’s Gate with an epic party, were rather substantial.
Obviously, this first trailer doesn’t tease too much, outside of the M-rated nature of things and how this will be “taboo” to some, due to how it’s clearly depicting certain rituals and religions. But, if we were to guess things, based on the past and how they handle their RPGs, you’ll get to create your own special character and go through a world that is full of options and choices that will help define what you are going to do in the battles to come.
We did get a tease of some of the species you’ll get to partake in, and it’s clear from past titles that there will be both magic and might to enjoy. Hopefully, we’ll get more insight on this next title from Larian soon…and with a less graphic intro.
