Gearbox has shared an official, if small, update on Borderlands 4’s Bloomreaper.

He said this after being asked about it on Twitter:
It’ll be sometime mid next month. It’s still going through QA and balance adjustments right now.
What Did Gearbox Promise With Bloomreaper?
Gearbox revealed Bloomreaper the Invincible all the way back last month. This invincible boss is coming with its own combat arena and Legendary Loot.
Its launch also coincides with the addition of a new Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode Level, which is potentially the biggest rebalancing that players will see yet. It also makes sense that Gearbox has been holding back on additional levels.
The more invincible bosses that Gearbox adds, the more additional levels that players need to work towards. Otherwise, they won’t have a reason to fight that boss again after beating it.
What is important here is that Gearbox promised that Bloomreaper was coming in December. Notably, Gearbox did not give a specific date, or even a week.
All things considered, Graeme’s update ultimately says that Bloomreaper is still in schedule. That’s definitely a positive sign we don’t have to question. It does feel like some players have become overly pessimistic about Borderlands 4 right now. But they’re still in a good place to win players back with a proper endgame. And they’re well on their way to building that right now.
Will Bloomreaper Break The Game’s Balance Again?
That seems to be the point of Gearbox taking time to polish up this boss. Gearbox has been carefully calibrating the small and big discrepancies in balance, to make the game enjoyable for everyone.
The idea is that any Vault Hunter, with as many potential permutations of skill trees and loadouts, will be viable to take on any boss and scenario. So Bloomreaper needs to fit that criteria.
Bloomreaper isn’t intended to be a Takedown boss but it could be relevant to them. Gearbox will probably be collecting data on this boss encounter to build for that Takedown that they have already promised next year.
Bloomreaper Is Just A Fun Invincible Boss Idea
Outside of all of that, this is like fighting Aubrey II straight out of the Little Shop of Horrors. Or if you’re so inclined, Biollante’s Flower Beast Form from Godzilla vs. Biollante.
It’s just a fun idea to take on a giant killer flower. Hopefully, the presentation for this boss battle lives up to how he imagine that plays like. It could also be instructive on making more plant-based bosses in the future.
