Ubisoft Is Still Deep In Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time Remake, “Ensuring The Sands Move With Purpose”

June 17, 2025 by Ryan Parreno

Ubisoft may want Prince of Persia to become part of its upcoming subsidiary.

Ubisoft has shared a small, but meaningful, update for Prince of Persia: The Sands Of Time Remake.

The official Prince of Persia Twitter account shared an image showing a crystal palace, with a scattering of the proverbial sands in the air. That image came with this message:

Yep, we’re still deep in the game — exploring, building, and ensuring the sands move with purpose.

This game is being crafted by a team that truly cares, and they’re pouring their hearts (and a lot of coffee) into every step.

Thank you for sticking with us.

While development continues behind the scenes, there’s another adventure waiting for you right now:

The Rogue Prince of Persia — fast, stylish, and built with the same dedication.

This message also comes a little over a month after the same Twitter account hinted that Ubisoft is also interested in reviving the Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown Metroidvania spinoff franchise. While these Prince of Persia games are still deep in production, Ubisoft wanted to make sure that fans knew that they were focused in properly bringing the franchise back.

As many have pointed out, Ubisoft originally announced Prince of Persia: The Sands Of Time Remake all the way back in 2020. Lest we forget, however, last May they committed to a release window of March 2026. We won’t go through the whole history of the game’s production here, but at least for now, we should be expecting this remake to finally be arriving in the next nine months.

It’s certainly interesting that we got an update this way, since Ubisoft decided not to have one of their annual Ubisoft Forward presentations this month. While we pointed out the potential games that Ubisoft could have revealed at the event, the simple fact is that the company itself remains in flux.

Last March, Ubisoft publicly announced plans to launch a subsidiary that would be 25 % owned by TenCent. While they’re hammering out the details of that deal, part of the arrangement would be for that subsidiary to be in charge of Ubisoft’s biggest and most successful franchises. Based on Ubisoft’s signals regarding Prince of Persia, they seem to consider it one of their most premium franchises as well.

We’re not so sure that TenCent would agree. Admittedly, it was once front and center as Ubisoft’s 3D action franchise, but it was more or less replaced by Assassin’s Creed, to the point that it’s only receiving this revival now. If TenCent doesn’t want Prince of Persia to join this subsidiary, it could be relegated to AA budgets and smaller promotion. On the other hand, if Ubisoft is able to convince TenCent that it can relive its former glories, it could get the support the likes of Assassin’s Creed and Siege X is getting. This certainly seems up in the air, but we may not need to wait that long to find out.
