Infinity Ward has made a surprising last minute announcement for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.

They made this announcement in the official Call of Duty Updates Twitter account:
Call of Duty: #ModernWarfare4 | #DMZ Early Access
Players on PS5 and XBOX Series X|S must have Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) enabled for Performance Mode support in #MW4 Campaign and DMZ. This will also be required for Performance Mode in Call of Duty: Warzone with Season 1.
If you’re encountering issues being locked at 60 Hz in these modes, make sure your display supports 120 Hz and VRR, and check your settings to ensure VRR is enabled.
Infinity Ward did not provide further explanation for the change. To be clear for new players, this does not mean you won’t be able to play the game if you don’t have a VRR capable screen. It does mean you have to play on Balanced or Quality mode on these platforms.
Casual players probably won’t notice the difference, but esports and competitive players may have to change their play screens, or platforms.
