We keep talking about how Marvel Rivals is a massive hit, and that never stops being accurate, as it is emphatically a huge hit in the gaming space and beyond! Yes, beyond that, as there’s a comic book tie-in that has done well and is getting a physical copy released this April. We highly recommend it. Anyway, the game is in a “peak period” right now because it has released the first part of its “Season 1” content, which stars the Fantastic Four, the game’s first official DLC characters. Mr. Fantastic and Sue Storm are out right now, with Johnny Storm and The Thing coming later.
However, once they’re all in the game, who’s coming next? Well, one leaker on Twitter named XOXLEAK seems to have an indication of at least some of the characters who might drop sooner or later. On their handle, they made a series of tweets that point to a score of characters from the X-Men showing up to add their skills to the roster.
The five they specifically mentioned were all-time classics like Gambit, Rogue, and Beast, with other incredibly iconic X-Men characters like Jubilee and Nightcrawler. So, yeah, that’s a diverse lineup of characters to add to Marvel Rivals.
For now, it’s unknown if this is real, especially with all the OTHER leakers who have thrown in their own “finds” about characters like Professor X, Cyclops, Emma Frost, and more. Plus, recall that there have been leaks of characters that seem a bit more likely to come soon, like Blade, Ultron, and more.
That’s the funny thing about a game like this. The roster needs to be “massive,” so players have plenty of options, and Marvel Comics has plenty of options to choose from to balance out the game. When you look at some of the X-Men characters mentioned, it’s not hard to see some of them being “perfect fits” for the “team shooter.”
For example, characters like Gambit and Cyclops would be perfect long-range fighters, with Gambit using his cards to get enemies off-balanced and then using his staff for those that get in close, and Cyclops using his vision to blast enemies from afar so they can’t get close. Meanwhile, Rogue, Beast, and Nightcrawler would be perfect up-close fighters who are hard to get a hit on.
Some of the others are bit trickier to see the “true potential of” outside of some basic attacks, but we’ll just have to see how NetEase brings them to life, if they are even coming to the game in the first place.
