There are so many incredible IPs we’ve enjoyed growing up that have fallen by the wayside. It’s a shame some of these games don’t get picked up for a new release again. Likewise, it’s sometimes a shame that some of these games don’t even end up on a compilation release. Sega has a slew of incredible games that we would love make a return back into the marketplace. Fortunately, Sega seems to be bringing some of these classic IPs back.
Thanks to a report from Gematsu, it was recently uncovered that Sega had filed new trademarks for Ecco the Dolphin and Ecco on December 27 of last year. Now, it’s finally become public, and it could be that there is a new revival for this IP underway.

Of course, that’s speculation on our part because we don’t have any confirmation on the matter from Sega. However, what we do have from Sega is interest in bringing back some of their IPs. A couple of years ago, Sega dropped a trailer during The Game Awards highlighting some of their classic game franchises making a return.
Not long after, we saw several Sega trademarks featuring games like Crazy Taxi, Streets of Rage, Shinobi, Kid Chameleon, Altered Beast, and more. Meanwhile, if you recall, last month, Sega delisted the Sega Genesis Classics, which featured a plethora of retro games. Some are wondering if it was a move to prepare new installments for these franchises before introducing the classic installments again. Or we could just see a new revamped compilation release with these games.
Meanwhile, we also reported late last year that Sega was considering its own subscription service. So, we could see some of these games tied to a subscription to enjoy. But all we can do is wait for Sega to make its next move.
