Hello Games’ founder Sean Murray has published a new update on the PlayStation Blog detailing the creation of No Man’s Sky’s distinct art style.
Murray wrote:
“Our game is procedurally generated but we always want it to have a unique, recognisable style, to look like a science fiction book cover come to life. This is only possible because of our super-talented art team. When we talk about No Man’s Sky, we like to talk about the maths involved in creating the visuals, but really it’s our artists that give the game its beautiful style.”
You can check out the video above to see the art team in action.
Murray also announced a limited edition custom No Man’s Sky themed PS4 faceplate. The faceplate will be available in the UK, Ireland, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Cyprus, Denmark, Sweden, The Netherlands, Belgium, Luxemburg, South Africa, Turkey, Russia, Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, Croatia, Romania, Bulgaria, Saudi Arabia, and the Gulf region. Availability will vary be retailer.
And this is what it looks like:
No Man’s Sky was originally announced during the 2013 VGX Awards Show and is incredibly ambitious despite the small team at Hello Games, with 18 quintillion planets procedurally generated and a huge variety of different climates, challenges, and alien species.
An Explorer’s Edition of the game is available for PC while PS4 players can enhance their experience with the Limited Edition.
No Man’s Sky is set for release for PS4 and PC on June 21st, 2016 in North America, on June 22nd in Europe, and on June 24th in the UK and Ireland.
