Large Monsters are the core of the Monster Hunter Now gameplay. Focusing on combat, the game offers monstrous enemies with unique attack patterns. To master the game, you’re encouraged to learn these patterns and time your attacks and dodges accordingly. But if you want to button (or screen) mash, you can do that too.

Currently, there are 13 Large Monsters in Monster Hunter Now. More and higher rarity monsters will unlock as you play through the story quests. There are 13 Chapters in all, with each Large Monster unlocking at specific chapters. In addition to new monsters, you’ll unlock higher rarity Large Monsters at certain points too.

Large Monster Features

Unlocking each monster allows you to access that monster’s Weapon and Armor set. Defeating monsters will give you various materials of varying rarities. These can be used to forge, upgrade, and overgrade your equipment.

Different Large Monsters can be found in different habitats. All early-game monsters can be found in all three habitats, with late-game monsters becoming more restricted. Additionally, late-game monsters tend to deal elemental damage rather than just normal attack damage. However, every monster has at least one elemental weakness.

Finally, all Large Monsters have breakable parts. The Break function allows you to knock a monster down for a short amount of time. This will stop any attack the monster may have prepared, allowing you to attack as much as possible within that short window. Breaking parts also gives you additional rewards when you successfully complete the hunt. Some weapons will allow you to lock on to breakable parts, making it easier to both stun the monster and claim extra rewards.
