Today The Pokémon Company has officially confirmed the existence of a new Mythical Pokémon, a rare Artificial type that will star in the Pokemon movie set to release sometime this year.
First revealed by Japanese magazine CoroCoro, the metallic Pokémon was originally thought to be named Magiana but with today’s news we now know their name is actually Magearna. In the upcoming Pokemon movie, Ash will visit a “city of cogs and gears”, where he meets a mysterious and powerful invention: the 500-year-old Magearna. Together with his companion Volcanion, the last Pokémon of this generation and the first dual water-and-fire Pokémon to grace the series, they must rescue Magearna from the grips of a power hungry and corrupt minister. No other details about the movie are known at this time.
So far it is unknown if Magearna will make an appearance in a Pokémon game; they do not appear in the code for the last generation games, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, or X and Y, which strongly suggests they are the beginning of the next generation of Pokémon, and thus will not be playable until there is a new game. Both Magearna and Volcanion will be making their official debut in the new movie.
