Gamescom is returning in 2022, which will be hosted from August 24 to August 28, 2022. It has been stated that the event will be hosted virtually and in person, allowing even more companies to attend without having to travel. Gamescom is the largest video game event in the world to date, primarily due to the number of those who attend the event.
Just a few months ago, in May, Gamescom organizers claimed that around 250 companies had already registered to attend, which has now doubled in just a few short months. More than 500 companies have verified their attendance, and the organizers say this number will only grow as the event date nears. This list of attendees ranges from developers and publishers to those who wish to sell merchandise in the events merch area.
Some of the more prominent companies that have been said to be in attendance so far are:
- Xbox
- 2k
- Razer
- SEGA Europe
- TQH Nordic
- Ubisoft
- Bandai Namco
- Warner Bros Games
Though the list of attendees seems to be filling out quite nicely, a few major publishers have stated they will not be attending Gamescom this year. Nintendo had made statements that they wouldn’t be a part of the event, telling Gameswirtschaft, “This year, however, after careful consideration, we have decided against participating in Cologne.” Sony Interactive Entertainment has also mentioned that PlayStation will not be in attendance this year.
Last year, the event was hosted only online, though the organizers had planned for it to be in-person and virtual. The physical portion of the event will take place in Cologne, Germany, where it has been held since 2009. Gamescom will feature several areas for press, trade visitors, and content creators with promises of additional sections for cosplay, indie fans, and retro.
