Rumours are rife across the internet that Bloober Team (Layers Of Fear, The Blair Witch Project, The Medium) are working on a Silent Hill 2 remake for Konami. In fact, it was announced last year that the companies were to be partnering up so that Bloober Team could work on a a horror IP with “a very famous gaming publisher”. Considering the Konami portfolio and the franchise speculation that has persisted since the reveal and then cancelation of P.T, assuming they’re working on Silent Hill has been a natural conclusion for many to make.
Well with the internet rumbling off the back of a week of leaked screenshots and rumours, Bloober Team’s CEO Piotr Babieno, has spoken to the topic, and while he has flat-batted the rumours of their involvement with Silent Hill, and specifically Silent Hill 2, he did still speak about the nature of the game. Speaking to IGN, Babieno declared that he hopes to be able to comment on what they are in fact working on “as soon as we can”, while adding that the unannounced title will “still be a Bloober Team title”, even if it is a product of a parternship with another party.
“We can’t comment on anything we are doing because we appreciate our relationship with our partners, of course. So we can’t [say] anything. We will make an announcement about our future projects as soon as we can. So then you will know much more”, he then proceeded to laugh before concluding by saying “officially”. That final comment is what will undoubtedly further heighten the fan frenzy that is building around this supposed Silent Hill 2 Remake.
With Konami silent on the matter, Babieno’s comments are the first official comment on any of these rumours, and while indirect, certaintly seem to indicate that there may be some validity to the speculation. Of course, if it’s real, that still won’t end the scuttebutt with other questions around PS5 exclusivity, rumours of multiple Silent Hill games being in simultaneous development, and even Bloober Team’s history of middling received titles all being hot topics in the community, so expect to be talking about this one for months and maybe even years to come.
