Since its launch, Elden Ring has climbed to the top of the charts around the world, pulling gamers in with its intriguing story and addictive gameplay. The souls-like game has now overtaken New World and has become the sixth biggest game of all time in terms of concurrent players on Steam. This has happened in only the second week since it was released on February 25, 2022.
The news is according to SteamDB which shows Elden Ring‘s peak concurrent users is currently 953,426, having reached that figure over the weekend. New World previously held the sixth spot at a peak of 913,634 concurrent players.
The top five games with the most concurrent players ever on Steam are as follows:
- Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds – 3, 257, 248
- Lost Ark – 1,325,305
- Counter-Strike: Global Offensive – 1,308,963
- Dota 2 – 1,295,114
- Cyberpun 2077 – 1,054,388
In additional impressive news concerning Elden Ring, the game has not dropped below half a million concurrent players on Steam since its launch. As of March 7, the action RPG sits at its lowest, although the still massive, amount of 526,455 concurrent players. Elden Ring has exceeded expectations, being called a contender for Game of the Year by many critics and gamers, and 2022 is only in its third month. The overwhelmingly positive reception for the game has even led it to become the UK’s biggest non-FIFA or Call of Duty release since 2018.
While it looks like the majority of gamers are currently consumed by Elden Ring, the RPG has of course taken over the internet as well. Numerous memes featuring the game have been created, reports of players selling in-game items on eBay, and even a story of one player beating that game’s bosses using a Nintendo Switch Ring Fit controller was posted to social media. Suffice to say, it’s only March and already it looks like the gaming industry will always remember 2022 as the year Elden Ring launched.
