Warner Bros. Interactive No Longer For Sale

September 2, 2020 by Dennis Patrick

AT&T changes its mind over the gaming division.

It wasn’t all that long ago that we started to see reports of AT&T interested in selling off their Warner Bros. Interactive gaming division. This would be a massive sale and likely bring in a ton of money for the company. As a result, there were plenty of eyes on the move to see just who would come in and purchase the division and their line of video game development studios with it. Of course, there were two big companies likely interested in a bidding war to get the studios under their umbrella.

The two we’re referring to is Microsoft and Sony. Both have expressed interest in obtaining more studios and with their next-generation video game console platform set to launch this holiday season, there was likely some incentive to ensure they have enough exclusives to sway players to their platform. Of course, that was just talks online at the moment since there wasn’t anything official stating these two companies would be offering a bid to obtain Warner Bros. Interactive. After all, this deal would have brought a long line of video game studios located all around the world. Included in the mix being Avalanche Software, Monolith Productions, NetherRealm Studios, Rocksteady Studios, TT Games, among other WB Games branded divisions scattered around the United States.

At any rate, it looks like AT&T has pulled the decision to sell the gaming division altogether. The report from Bloomberg states that AT&T now finds that this gaming division is too valuable to sell off after AT&T leadership was changed when John Stankey took the position of CEO. For now, it looks like Warner Bros. Interactive will remain and continue on producing video games across multiple competing platforms.

We know that there are some projects in the works officially from their collection of video game development studios. For instance, one of the anticipated video game titles launching from Rocksteady Studios after their line of Batman Arkham titles is another DC Comics focused IP. Players will get a chance to dive into the Suicide Squad team in the upcoming 2022 video game, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
