Sonic Boom’s New Design Does Not Replace Modern Sonic the Hedgehog

February 7, 2014 by Ian Miles Cheong

Sonic’s new looks do not replace the modern Sonic the Hedgehog, Sega has stated.

A brand new Sonic the Hedgehog was announced by SEGA yesterday. Titled Sonic Boom, the announcement of the new game rustled every fan’s jimmies due to the new aesthetic embraced by Sonic and his pals.

For starters, Sonic appears to be sporting a brown scarf now and a whole lot of sports tape. He’s never sported a scarf (or sports tape) before, although he’s held a sword and romanced a human lady in previous games.

Needless to say, fans are unhappy with the new hipster-looking Sonic and have made their disapproval of the design loud and clear on social media, including Sonic the Hedgehog’s official Facebook page.

The team at Sonic have since responded to the anger in a reply to the on-going announcement thread that Sonic Boom is a “new branch of the Sonic universe and does not replace modern Sonic.”

Fans can safely calm down now, knowing that Sonic’s new design is for Sonic Boom and not the franchise in general.
