Call of Duty: Ghosts Changes Quick-Scoping to Make it Less Viable

September 9, 2013 by Josiah Renaudin

Players won’t be able to use their sniper rifles in close-range situations quite like before.

Call of Duty: Ghosts players won’t be able to simply pull up a rifle’s scope on a whim and take out a nearby enemy. The concept of “quick-scoping” hasn’t been erased from the multiplayer experience entirely, but Infinity Ward executive producer Mark Rubin has recently taken to Twitter to detail how things will be different in the next-generation Call of Duty title.

Rubin sees the sniper class as more competitive than ever, with a slew of new opportunities for long-range play.

"The changes we’ve made, like dual render scopes and increased damage, really make snipers a great competitive class to use,” Rubin wrote. “We’ve also done a lot with map design (sight lines and cover) to ensure that all classes are viably effective. Both short range and long range classes will be effective on the same maps.”

In reinvigorating the class and making sure it feels unique for the new blockbuster, Rubin admits that a few traditional maneuvers that fans might expect from this style of player had to be altered.

"However in re-envisioning sniper rifles some aspects, such as sway timing, have changed the way sniper rifles function and so traditional 'quick-scoping' has been affected,” he said. “Is it gone completely? Maybe. It certainly won’t be viable in the way it previously was."

Snipers won’t be the only big change in Ghosts. As previously announced, female soldiers will make their debut this November, alongside much more destructible environments. All the big, game-changing additions can be seen in this roundup.
