Own an Xbox One and looking to enjoy a few video game titles with friends? From newcomers to the platform or gamers who owned an Xbox One since the day it launched, we have a few of our personal favorite cooperative based video game titles on the system.
These titles are aimed for players to enjoy the game together rather than facing against opposing players. However, there are a few titles within the list that offers both a cooperative game mode along with modes to face against your friends.
In this list, we have the better cooperative video games on the Xbox One that launched within the past five years. If you choose to go further back into the catalog of titles you’ll find even more fun co-op games to enjoy. However, here are some of the better and recent co-op releases on the Xbox One.
#21 Sea of Thieves
- Developer: Rare
- Publisher: Microsoft
Sea of Thieves is an action-adventure title that is centered around pirates. Players will take to the open seas with their cooperative crew as they search for hidden treasure and taking out other pirate crews that show up along the way.
This is an MMO game where players will consistently run into each other throughout their various adventures. Combat will take place both in ships and on land as well, giving players the full pirate experience. Players will also be able to attend safe-zones where they can trade, hire on new crew or even dabble into the black market goods.
#20 Ghost Recon Wildlands
- Developer: Ubisoft
- Publisher: Ubisoft
Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands is the tenth installment in the Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon franchise. This time around, the game is set in Bolivia, where the rising power of drug cartels has become a concern to the United States Government.
To deal with this concern, the Government has sent in an elite special operations unit called “the Ghosts” to destroy the cartels in question. Unlike previous installments within the franchise, players will be set in an open world environment to explore along with more freedom in how they accomplish their goals.
#19 Lego Games
- Developer: TT Fusion
- Publisher: Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment
There are several Lego based video games released into the market. Oftentimes, these are licensed properties that are transformed into a Lego title such as Lego Jurassic World and Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
We couldn’t just pick on particular title over the other as they are all often worth playing. This is also a great franchise to enjoy with younger gamers as well.
#18 World War Z
- Developer: Saber Interactive
- Publisher: Mad Dog Games
Adapting the 2006 novel of the same name, World War Z puts players against a horde of zombies in a variety of cities across the world. This is a third-person shooter where players can work together as they attempt to survive a horde of zombies. To fill up your team, players can select from a variety of classes that come packed with different skills such as a medic to a melee focused character class known as the slasher. While the gameplay may be straightforward, there are additional game modes available that will add a new competitive spin. If you enjoy the Left 4 Dead series then this could be a potential game worth picking up.
#17 Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris
- Developer: Crystal Dynamics
- Publisher: Square Enix
The sequel to Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris offers a new action-adventure for a group of friends to go through. This title plays out similar to its predecessor which is a non-linear arcade style action-adventure where Lara Croft, Carter, Isis, and Horus who are set off to defeat an evil deity known as Set. Played in an isometric camera view, up to four players can join in to go through the narrative campaign which involves combat and puzzle solving.
#16 Far Cry: New Dawn
- Developer: Ubisoft
- Publisher: Ubisoft
We won’t spoil Far Cry 5 for you if you have yet to play it but this particular game takes place after the closing scene. Within Far Cry New Dawn, a new enemy has come to Hope County and is terrorizing the people. It’s up to you in once again liberating the area and freeing the innocent from tyranny. However, Hope County may not be as familiar as you last left it which means that there are new people to meet along with brand new areas to explore. Best of all, this game can be enjoyed with a friend as Ubisoft included a full campaign cooperative game mode.
In this cooperative game mode, the host that sets the party up will obtain the progress completed during your run. This is still a first-person shooter with plenty of enemies to deal with, missions to accept and areas to unlock. There’s also plenty of crafting available with even vehicles allowing crafting components. Again, we won’t spoil the narrative of Far Cry 5 so we’re being a bit brief here and if you haven’t already played Far Cry 5 then we definitely recommend checking it out before jumping to New Dawn. With that said, if you enjoyed Far Cry 5 and want more or less the same style of gameplay and mechanics then you shouldn’t be disappointed with this installment.
