Best Cooperative Games Released For Xbox One In The Last Five Years

July 5, 2019 by Dennis Patrick

Grab a friend and enjoy these cooperative Xbox One video games.

#15 A Way Out
  • Developer: Hazelight Studios
  • Publisher: EA Originals

A Way Out is an upcoming action-adventure journey from Hazelight Studios. This will be the second video game to be directed by Josef Fares who you may be familiar with from his previous title, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons.

This is a unique action-adventure video game as it will require two players with the display being split-screen regardless of playing the video game locally or through online. All-in-all, the narrative is based around two prisoners who must survive and escape a prison. Their stories will be told simultaneously and while one character may be in a cutscene, the other will be able to freely move and execute their tasks.

As you can likely imagine, A Way Out will focus on gamers having to work together in order to escape the authorities and complete goals.

#14 Call of Duty: WWII
  • Developer: Sledgehammer Games
  • Publisher: Activision

The Call of Duty franchise as of late has been focused more on futuristic gameplay. That, however, changed with Call of Duty: WWII as developers are brought the series back to its roots. Players will follow a squad during 1944 to 1945 in the European theater of conflict.

Outside of a single-player campaign set in the second World War, there will be the ever-popular zombies cooperative game mode attached as well giving players the ability to fight alongside each other when dealing with the zombie pandemic.

#13 The Division
  • Developer: Massive Entertainment
  • Publisher: Ubisoft

Ubisoft’s The Division takes place in the United States after a smallpox pandemic causes the government and its cities to collapse. Now only chaos remains where a single task force becomes primary to deal with the instability and chaos in the nation. This last line of defense is called the Division, a classified stay-behind force with self-supported tactical agents.

Taking place in New York City, players traverse the area as they team up with other Division agents to clear out the infected and protect the innocent, however, throughout the game, the Division agents find themselves in a worldwide conspiracy leading them to a group responsible for unleashing the deadly virus.

#12 Overcooked
  • Developer: Ghost Town Games
  • Publisher: Team17

Overcooked is a cooking simulator type video game. Developed by Ghost Town Games, players take on the role of a chef who must prepare a variety of meals within the time limit. However, the game is filled with obstacles and hazards forcing players to quickly work together in order to send out the desired meal recipes that come up. Being a relatively new release, the game has become a massive hit and a must play if you enjoy quirky arcade style co-op games.

#11 Far Cry 5
  • Developer: Ubisoft
  • Publisher: Ubisoft

Within the narrative, Far Cry 5 pins players against Joseph Seed, a leader of a cult who has forced his way into controlling Hope County. As more innocent civilians become trapped and forced into submission under Joseph Seed’s rule, only a handful of resistance stands between Seed and his reign.

Just as before, players can expect the title to deliver as a first-person shooter in an open world environment which can be explored either on foot or through vehicles. However, the campaign can be experienced both as singleplayer experience or through cooperative multiplayer.

Likewise, Far Cry 5 will include a map editor where players will be able to build maps with objectives to complete for when gamers finish the main campaign.
