Reggie Fils-Aime: MiiVerse is the Wii U’s “Killer App”

October 3, 2012 by Alex Co

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime thinks the MiiVerse is the Wii U’s "killer app."

Quck, what would you say is Nintendo's killer app when it comes to the Wii U? Whatever your answer is, I'm guessing it won't be the MiiVerse.

In an interview with AllThingsD, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime states that he thinks the MiiVerse will be the Wii U's "killer app," and that it will "surprise" people.

I think that it will pleasantly surprise people…As the network grows and the installed base grows, it will prove to be a true killer application for the system, and I say this loving what we have done with Nintendo TVii and loving all the games. Until you try it and experience it, you may not totally understand it.

For those not familiar with the MiiVerse, it's Nintendo's online social network for the Wii U. It's like Sony's Home, but done the Nintendo way. It will appear on the start-up screen as some sort of virtual hang-out where players and their added friends in a virtual plaza. During this time, players can talk using speech bubbles that will come out of their Miis.

Nintendo is also planning on having the MiiVerse accesible through other web-enabled devices, but for now, it's a Wii U-only feature.

So, do you agree with Fils-Aime or is he overselling MiiVerse's importance? Come to think of it, how do you think the MiiVerse will fare? Will people embrace it or is this a sign that Nintendo's not listening to consumers in regards to their online plans?
