While both Sony and Microsoft are keeping mum on their next-gen plans, we all know it's coming. So does that mean that 2013 will be the PS3's swan song when it comes to core game support?
PlayStation UK Managing Director Fergal Gara doesn't agree with this way of thinking. He states that they're nowhere close to giving up on the PS3 and it hasn't even peaked yet in continental Europe.
We're nowhere close to giving up on PS3. When you look at the UK market, it's easy to say that current consoles are fading. But if you look at PS3, it's holding up a lot better than others, so it warrants support.
But if you look at continental Europe, PS3 hasn't even peaked yet. Why would you run away from a console business when you're not even top of the hill? We're certainly not going to run away from it.
Of course, bear in mind that Gara can't say anything but the things he just said. I mean, he can't say, "yes we're working on the PS4, so expect 2013 to be the last good year for the console you have in your home now." or something to that effect, no?
However, I do agree that people shouldn't worry about PS3 support — even if the PS4 comes around next year. Heck, the PS2 is still getting games released on it even now.
