After much difficulty in development, NBA LIVE '13 has been cancelled. It's already had previous delays despite looking pretty "underwhelming".
Or perhaps it's because it was underwhelming that it was cancelled. As EA SPORTS Exec Andrew Wilson said "…making great games is not easy, and we're just not there yet on NBA LIVE 13."
Wilson continued,"Having continued to look at the game over the past few days, it's clear that we won't be ready in October. And rather than launch midway through the season, we're going to sit out the full year and stay focused on making next year’s game great. "
Wilson said he was "disappointed" that NBA LIVE hadn't met their "high expectations" but remains "motivated about where we're going." Wilson also said "This wasn't an easy decision, but it's the right one for our fans. I hope you'll agree when you're able to play the game next year."
The last game in the series was NBA LIVE '10 and achieved an 80 score on Metacritic. Many fans of the series are frustrated by the endless delays and confused as to why it appears to be difficult for EA to make it's sequel. But at present it looks like if fans are lucky, they’re looking at a NBA LIVE ’14 release…maybe.
