Prestige has always played a huge role in the multiplayer experience of the Call of Duty titles. Once players reach a certain level, they are able to gain a prestige level, which in turn resets their levels back to one and encourages them to unlock every weapon and perk all over again.
As we noted in a previous post, Treyarch is overhauling how the prestige system works in Black Ops 2. Weapon experience is no longer lost, so you’ll be able to continue gaining experience on your weapons of choice once you’ve unlocked them for use once again. Likewise, achievements and challenges are carried over with your prestige level, so it’ll no longer be a complete wipe of your progress.
Treyarch says that Black Ops 2 is meant to be played “all the way” to prestige level 10. Upon reaching prestige each time, you’ll be awarded with tokens to unlock items to unlock forever, including guns and equipment you’ve yet to reach the required level for. In addition to tokens, you’ll be able to select an additional reward, including:
New create a class slot – Up to 5 extra slots.
Stats Reset – A complete wipe of all stats and unlocks.
Refund – Refunds all unlock tokens a player has spent so far for that prestige level.
Players who reach the peak of the game will be awarded a special emblem and all content is unlocked for your use.
Black Ops 2 is set for release on November 13 for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.
