There are several fighting game franchises available in the market. Two well-known franchises, Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter bot have a massive fan base but have yet to experience a crossover. As it turns out, NetherRealm Studios boss, Ed Boon, would definitely entertain the idea of Capcom ever approached the developers.
NetherRealm Studios is currently working on the next installment to their Injustice franchise, but during an interview with IGN, Ed Boon spoke about Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter. We’ve seen Street Fighter in crossovers before such as Street Fighter x Tekken, but will the roster of characters take on Mortal Kombat veterans?
While Ed Boon humored the idea and even admits that it would be a cool dream and something he would entertain, the famed developer doesn’t feel like it would be a good match up gameplay wise. According to Ed Boon, both franchises have a different feel during combat and it wouldn’t mix well.
“There’s part of me that’s like, ‘That would be such a cool dream,’ and then there’s another part of me that goes, ‘There’s no way would that satisfy everybody.”
Ed Boon went on to say that when these crossover games come into the development, both parties normally have to sacrifice something that sets their game apart making it tough for fans of either franchise.
