Just the other day, we reported on Sony Liverpool posting a message on their Facebook page that sent fans in a tizzy. Now, they're bringing it up a notch with an actual message that offers something more substantial.
In WipEout's 2048 Facebook page, the following has been posted on their wall:
Good afternoon Pilots
As you may be aware; Studio Liverpool shut its doors on the 22nd of August 2012.
It was a very sad day- the end of an era and will never be forgotten. While we wait for news on the future of WipEout, Online play will continue to be supported and there will be plenty of WipEout community events, giveaways and goodies to look forward to!
WipEout’s passion will live on – Together we are stronger and together we will keep WipEout alive.
WE ♥ WO!
So, it seems WipEout is not dead, no? Of course, we still "have to wait for news" on the future of the franchise, and we don't know for sure if Sony Liverpool is once again being considered to helm it; but this is better news than no WipEout news at all, right?
Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if a new WipEout game is being developed for the PS4 now. Not saying it's being made by Sony Liverpool themselves, but Sony could hand off the franchise to one of its other internal studios.
Whatever the case is, let's hope this means more WipEout games in Sony's future.
