Sony Drops PlayStation Now Support From Several Platforms

February 15, 2017 by Dennis Patrick

Sony is making big changes to the PlayStation Now service.

If you enjoyed PlayStation Now, which is Sony’s answer to backward compatibility for the PlayStation 4, then you may soon have to change how you enjoy the service. The service is currently available on several platforms, but now Sony has alerted its fans that soon you’ll only be able to access PlayStation Now from either a PC or PlayStation 4 console.

In the past, Sony pushed their PlayStation Now service on several devices which included the PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, PlayStation TV, Sony Bravia TVs, Sony Blu-ray players, and Samsung Smart TVs. However, those platforms will all be dropped and the service will only be supported on the PC and PlayStation 4 console.

This news comes from a direct post on the official Sony PlayStation blog in which Sony stated by limiting the service to the PlayStation 4 and PC, the company will be able to improve the user experience. Likewise, this will allow Sony to grow the service even further, but seeing how this is a cloud-based service, we’re curious as to how the other platforms were holding Sony back.

“After thoughtful consideration, we decided to shift our focus and resources to PS4 and Windows PC to further develop and improve the user experience on these two devices. This move puts us in the best position to grow the service even further.

If you use any of the above devices, we want to give our heartfelt thanks for your support, and we hope you’ll continue with us. Remember that all of your PS Now cloud game saves can easily be accessed on both PS4 and Windows PC.”

For those who are not interested in continuing on with the PlayStation Now service on the PlayStation 4 or PC then you’ll want to make sure to disable your auto-renewal in your account settings.
