Gearbox Wants to Make More Duke Nukem Games, Thinks it Would Be Amazing

September 14, 2012 by Alex Co

Randy Pitchford, president of Gearbox, states that they want to make more Duke Nukem games.

Do you have fond memories of the Duke Nukem franchise? What about Gearbox's Duke Nukem Forever? Yep, I thought so, but there might be more Duke on the way if Gearbox has their way.

In an interview with IGN, Gearbox president Randy Pitchford has admitted interest in making more games in the franchise. If you didn't know, Gearbox acquired the rights to Duke Nukem back in 2010. While Duke Nukem Forever wasn't well-received, the studio's still bent on making more.

I willingly and lovingly acquired the brand. When I did that, I wasn’t thinking that the only goal is just to make sure everyone could play Duke Nukem Forever…The real goal for me is I’d like to build a Duke Nukem game again.

To be fair to Gearbox, their salvaging of Duke Nukem Forever meant that they implemented a lot of what 3D Realms already made for the game — both good and bad.

Pitchford reveals that if and when they make a new Duke Nukem game, it would be a lot different and he thinks it would be "amazing."

I think what I would do and what Gearbox would do would be a little different" than Duke Nukem Forever. "I think it would be amazing, and I look forward to that.

While Duke Nukem Forever was panned critically, it did manage to sell well. So I gather getting a publisher for a new Duke Nukem game won't be that hard. The question here is, would you want one or is Duke Nukem a relic of forgetten times that should be buried?

Gearbox's next game for release is Borderlands 2 and is slated for a September 18 release on the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.
