Apple has announced its latest phone, the iPhone 5. It’s taller, thinner, and sports a chipset (or brain, if you’d like to extend the metaphor) l that’s twice as fast as the previous model.
Beginning with its exterior appearances, the new iPhone 5 is made entirely out of glass and aluminum, and weighs only 112 grams. It’s about 20% lighter and 18% thinner than the old iPhone 4S. With a 326ppi Retina display, the new model has an expanded resolution of 1136×640, but your old apps will work on it just fine as they’ll be centered to the newer, larger resolution. The new display features improved color saturation that’s 44% greater than the iPhone 4S. Thanks to the increased height, the home screen now sports five rows of apps instead of four.
Inside the iPhone 5 is the new A6 chip, which performs everything twice as fast as the previous A5 chip. It’s got double the processing power and double the graphics. Apple demoed the phone live with an upcoming game from EA called Real Racing 3, which showcased the phone’s graphics capabilities. The racing title, which is slated for release later this year, offers asynchronous multiplayer for players to challenge each others’ times.
Instagram addicts will be able to take photos on the phone’s newly designed 8MP camera which sports a sapphire crystal lens for added clarity, and better low-light performance.
With more battery power than its predecessor, the iPhone 5 will be able to sustain up to 8 hours on 3G or LTE (that’s new!) and 10 hours on WiFi browsing and watching videos in widescreen mode.
Last, but not least, the new phone will sport the new iOS 6, which is also coming to other iOS devices later this September.
The phone will be available in black and white.
