Valve is finally entering the living room space! No, they're not releasing a console (yet) but they are integrating Steam to work in your TV. The company is calling it "Big Picture," and it's a TV-friendly redesign of the Steam interface that PC players have been using all these years.
If you're still having a hard time grasping it, think: Xbox's dashboard but on your TV minus the cumbersome parts. Yeah, sounds nice, doesn't it? Now, if you'd rather watch it than read my ramblings, lucky for you Valve has released a video walkthrough, too!
In addition to a revamped user interface (UI), Big Picture will allow both a videogame control pad and mouse & keyboard. There's also a different virtual keyboard available that aims to make text entry easier than what we're used to now.
Also of note, Big Picture will be out later today in beta form! You can read up details and install Steam here.
While this is all well and good, it's still not the Valve console we're all hoping for. Of course, this new project by Valve should make Sony and Microsoft really, really nervous. This honestly seems like Valve's first-step in creating a console of its own to be honest.
Can and will this replace consoles as the center of your living room? What do you guys think?
