Virtual reality gaming has become a behemoth movement as of late. There are a number of companies turning out new headsets for smartphones, not to mention the big name companies delivering headsets for PC gaming along with Sony’s PlayStation VR. For now, VR is certainly new technology and it seems that Nintendo is interested in seeing just what the future could hold for the Nintendo Switch and this new VR craze.
Speaking to Nikkei, Nintendo’s President Tatsumi Kimishima spoke of VR and their currently upcoming console. Apparently, this is technology being looked at by Nintendo though there are some clear obstacles that must be surpassed before it would ever see a release from the Japanese company. One of the biggest issues has to do with the overall comfort level of playing VR.
“If we are able to resolve the issues with playing [VR] comfortably for long hours, we will support it in one form or another.”
Nintendo has apparently already established patents for their VR technology thanks to a report made by Polygon. From the patent images online, it seems that the Nintendo Switch would work out similar to smartphone VR headsets.
Essentially, the Switch would be fit into a headset while the Joy-Con controllers would work as normal. How Nintendo would offer and advertise the Nintendo Switch VR to stand out from the competition remains to be seen.
