Sony has announced on its community forums (via NeoGAF) that the PS3's online service, the PlayStation Network, will be going down on September 10 for scheduled maintenance.
During this time, players should still be able to play online and access apps but might receive a maintenance notification when accessing the PSN Store. PlayStation Home and Account Management pages. In short, these services will not be available during this scheduled maintenance period.
The maintenance period will start on September 10, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. PDT (11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Eastern).
Here's a handy tip some people might not know about. In minor maintenance periods like these, people who've gone online with their PS3s in the past week or two should be able to play online. It's those who haven't gone online and are inactive that usually can't. Don't ask me why it's like this, but even Sony acknowledges it as the forum states, "Be sure to sign in now if you wish to access the Network during this maintenance window."
Yes, maintenance is annoying but what I find weird here is why Sony posts this on ther forums and not in front of their official blog or maybe scroll across your PS3 profile while online. In cases like this, wouldn't you want the most people to find out aboout it so mass confusion and hate is held at a minimum? What do you think?
