Need proof that social gaming is getting bigger and is here to stay? This year's Tokyo Game Show (TGS) keynote is being given not by anyone on the "big three" console manufacturers, but by social gaming giant GREE's CEO Yoshikazu Tanaka.
While Tanaka also gave a TGS speech last year, it was the third in a series of keynotes that started with Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada (also CESA chairman) and a presentation for the PlayStation Vita.
This year, Tanaka will give a talk titled "The Evolution of Social Gaming Brought on by Smart Devices."
Former notable industry figures who also gave TGS keynotes are: former "father" of the PlayStation Ken Kutaragi, Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata and current Sony CEO Kaz Hirai.
This year's Tokyo Game Show will once again be held at the Makuhari Messe Center and will commence on September 20 up to September 23. September 22 and 23 will be open to the public as per the show's tradition.
So, what's next? Rovio holding press conferences at E3? If and when that happens, should we consider that a good or bad thing?
