Nintendo has announced the upcoming ability of Switch preorders. In a tweet this afternoon, the account for Nintendo’s New York City retail store said, “A limited quantity of preorders for the Nintendo Switch will begin at 1/13 at 9 AM while supplies last at Nintendo NYC.” The store is located at 10 Rockefeller Plaza.
There is no indication of exactly how limited these quantities will be. New game consoles, particularly those from Nintendo usually sell out, and availability for the Switch is expected to be limited. The phrase “limited quantities” however does call to mind the difficulty in obtaining an NES Classic Edition that many fans encountered and continue to. The $60 system seems to always sell out whenever it is restocked, even two months after its launch.
Nintendo is planning to announce many of the key details about Switch, such as prices, specs, and game lineup during a livestream on Thursday night. The NYC store will also host an in-store viewing event for the first 250 people to show up at 8 PM.
Preorders at the New York store open just a half an hour prior to a Treehouse livestream on Friday morning that will highlight the games from Thursday’s event.
The Switch is scheduled for release sometime this March, and recent reports have given an estimate of a $250 price tag.
