The New Super Mario Bros. 2 trailer is a cavalcade of adorable sisterly rivalry between Penelope and Monica Cruz. As Penelope shouts at Mario, Monica appears and offers assistance with the explicit understanding that whoever is last through the level will lose "the bet."
The two sisters play through the game in a very realistic manner. Small asides and commands to Mario pepper the disconnected dialogue and give a true portrayal of what playing the game with someone might be like. The banter is snarky, verging on insulting – like most competitive co-op titles – as both players attempt to tolerate each other until the end of each level.
Spoiler alert: Monica wins and Penelope must execute the bet, which is dressing up as our favorite plumber – mustache and all. She's no Bob Hoskins, but Penelope pulls off a pretty fantastic Mario, asking for mushrooms at a European supermarket.
