Why does Japan get all the cool stuff? Nintendo has announced that they will soon be selling an adorable Pokémon Center Original Pikachu Yellow Nintendo 3DS XL. The title may be a mouthful, but this jaw-dropping handheld will empty your maw posthaste.
The Pikachu-themed 3DS XL is the perfect shade of yellow and features a huggable Pika design spanning the front and back of the handheld. The interior is just white, but if past Pokemon handhelds are any indication, there will be a "Who's That Pokémon!" shaped Pikachu silhouette in one of the lower corners.
However, you can't just get this device over the counter. To purchase a Pikachu 3DS XL, you have to first reserve it, then head over to the Pokémon Center in Tokyo, Yokohama, Nagoya, Osaka, Fukuoka, Tohoku or Sapporo to pick it up. The handheld will retail for 18,900 yen or $239 USD.
I collect handhelds and when something like this surfaces, I curse every star in the sky that I don't live in Japan. Maybe if there was a prerequesite of proving you have "caught 'em all" I would stand a chance at getting my hands on one. Someday… someday.
