It might not be the "now" I'd have liked, but Sony have announced the date for the next Vita update, the release of the firmware that will allow PlayStation classics to be played on the Vita. On August 28th the patch will go live, allowing access to games like Final Fantasy VII and Tomb Raider.
If you're in the EU, it's worth noting that there are some great PS1 games on offer in the summer sale, so definitely check that out if you have a Vita.
