There is a first time for everything, and for the first time that I can recall, a studio head has told players to stop playing a game if they are bored with it. Garry Newman, studio head of Facepunch Studios, has told those who are bored of playing Rust (a game stuck in Early Access) to “just stop playing it.”
“We’re stuck in ping pong loop. We release an update, you love it for a month, you get bored, blame the system, bitch for a few months, then we release another update – and the same thing happens.”
Newman may have a point here. This loop can stop games from progressing. Players want new updates, but those updates cost money- money that could be going to getting the game out of Steam’s Early Access.
“If you’re bored of the game then just stop playing it. But before you get angry about it consider whether we have given you enough entertainment over the last 3 years to justify pocketing your $20.” said Newman. “We have a pretty good idea on how to push forward with Rust, but none of it is going to make the game more appealing to people that have spent their last 1,000 hours hating it.”
Well I guess someone had to bite the bullet and tell players to either man up or go home.
