A few days ago the videogame news sphere was abuzz with news that a new Xbox was in the works after Brian Hall, General Manager of Windows Live, described a "new wave of products" to The Verge.
Just recently, Microsoft released a statement regarding those statements, saying that Hall was misconstrued. The quote, which was published on IGN as part of an update, reads,
“The comments to The Verge were not understood in their intended context. When Brian mentioned a ‘new wave of products,’ he was referring to the full lineup of products coming later this year from Microsoft, including Windows 8, Office, Windows Phone and of course our fall Xbox update which will bring a host of new consumer experiences like Xbox Music, Videos, Games on Windows 8 and Xbox SmartGlass.”
While Microsoft dissuades us from hyping an ostensibly-unannounced console just yet, the statement doesn't actually confirm or deny the existence of a new Xbox. So, for now at least, we're still effectively in the dark about the reality of a new Xbox one way or the other.
